Everyone’s work is deeply idiosyncratic: in our regular Spotlight segment we explore artists’ experiences and inspiration to understand what defines and inspires their unique styles. Fajareka Setiawan is an Indonesian freelance illustrator and concept artist responsible for some incredibly detailed and imaginative pieces.
I started my education at Indonesian Institute of the Art Yogyakarta in 2009, I majored Visual Communication Design.
In mid semester, I worked with local comic company as a comic artist and collaborating with my friend who write the story. I difficultly making my own comic story and mostly get freelance illustration work more than comic book, so I decided to 100% focusing my career on illustration industry.
It started when I'm still a college Student. I worked on Caravan Studio as an intern in 2014. So many great artist there that helped me in digital illustration works.
After my internship program has done and I met my senior in creative industry Lius Lasahido that helped me a lot too to levelling up my skills. So, after my graduation He took me to join his Studio named Polar Engine until now. Mostly I learned a lot from him, techniques, inspiration, how to manage a team and many more.
My inspiration is to develop entertainment industry in my country

His digital paintings are epic and artistic like renaissance painting but with modern touch. All elements like lightning, color, texture, brush shape in the illustrations are on it.
For industrial purposes, the most useful technique is photobashing with a good fundamental understanding. I'm using digital methods because it is required to make a good and fast illustration.
